Vic: More vote claims in crucial supplementary election
Two more candidates in last year's crucial Frankston East supplementary election have
reportedly claimed Labor and the Liberals tried to buy their preferences.
The Herald Sun newspaper in Melbourne says one independent candidate reportedly told
he was offered cash by both major parties for his preferences.
Another candidate says he became angry when was was offered a deal by the ALP.
The allegations follow claims by former Frankston mayor DAVID DAWN that he was twice
offered money to direct his preferences to Labor.
But two Labor figures and the Victorian premier, STEVE BRACKS, have strenuously denied
the claims.
Nonetheless, the paper says in an article marked "exclusive", 37-year-old SCOTT RANKIN,
who ran as an independent candidate, says both parties made offers of assistance to win
his preferences.
A third Frankston East candidate, who did not wish to be named, yesterday claimed he
was also offered help by the ALP with his how-to-vote card.
