Fed: Liberal Democratic Party allowed to contest ACT election

ACT electoral commissioner PHIL GREEN says the Liberal Democratic Party will be allowed
to contest the ACT election in October.

Two objections were received to the registration of the new party, from the Australian
Democrats and from the Liberal Party.

Both are concerned that the name is confusing for voters because it is similar to the
names of their parties.

The ACT goes to the polls to elect its 17-member single house parliament on October 20.
