NSW: Baby abandoned in garage of unit block= 2
Police said a resident of the units had heard the cries of the baby, which was was
about three hours old.
After being called to the block of units, they found the 32 year-old mother in her
unit at the block.
She was taken to Mona Vale Hospital, where she was in a stable condition and being
interviewed by police.
Detective Inspector David Cochrane, the crime manager at Dee Why police station, said
it was believed the baby was born at the block of units.
"The mother of the child is obviously a person of interest," Det Insp Cochrane said.
"The focus of the inquiry is to ascertain how and why the baby was left in the garage.
"I'm led to believe it was lucky the baby was found when it was or he may not have
survived the ordeal."
Police have also spoken to the mother's de facto husband, who is not in custody.
Police said they want to hear from anyone who lives in the units at 19 Wheeler Parade,
and may have heard anything between 2.30am and 8am today.
